BISHOP OF NEWALA ELECTED

Father Oscar Mnunga, from the Diocese of Dar es Salaam, has been elected as the first Bishop of the new Diocese of Newala.  He will be ordained in Newala on 6 September 2009

FATHER JAMES ALMASI TO LEAVE THE RONDO

Father James AlmasiĀ is leaving the Rondo on Tuesday, 14 July and moving to Mkuti Parish, a relatively new urban parish in Masasi Town.

Father James has been responsible for a number of outstanding achievements at the Rondo since his arrival in June 2007 and he will be sorely missed - especially by all the students and staff at the Junior Seminary and the ordinands and their families at St Cyprian's College. We wish him well in his new post.

  DIOCESE TO BE SPLIT

We have received confirmation that the Diocese of Masasi is to be split into two separate Dioceses - the Diocese of Masasi and the Diocese of Newala - later this year.
The Friends of Masasi will in fact support both Dioceses - as together they are the same as the original Diocese of Masasi

Canon Chad Gandiya has recently been elected Bishop of Harare. Canon Gandiya, who is currently employed by the USPG as their Anglicans in World Mission Desk Officer, has been the link person between the USPG and the Diocese of Masasi and has worked closely with Bishop Patrick and also with the Friends of Masasi in recent years. Canon Gandiya's successor will be appointed after he has gone and Jayne Woodward who has been his assistant for the last three months, will attend to all mail during the transition.
